What is it with some people?

I notice that the Eastern Football site got hacked over the weekend and, checking my logs, it seems that this site has had a hack attempt already.

My guess is it seems to be attempting to exploit some known vulnerability with one of these template or "out of the box" type website providers as it keeps appending the parameter "custompluginfile" to the end of the URL.

I'm not sure which system has this vulnerability but thought I'd put out a word of warning to any webmasters out there, especially if you are using one of these template systems, if this parameter name seems familiar then please, please check you are patched up with your provider.

Good to see the lads getting a win at Greenford. Cuoldn't get away until 2.30pm so I went to to take a look at Stanway Rovers playing Welwyn GC from the South Midlands Premier.
Difficult to assess the Rovers on this performance (4-0) as the opposition was so poor, Welwyn lacked the pace & fitness required for Step 5 football. I am not sure if they are typical of the SML, I suspect this league is not as strong as the ECL, their fans expect them to be mid-table. Interesting to note that our Vase opponents Broxbourne Borough put 5 past them last week.
One thing for sure is that Rover's strength is their attack, as you would expect with a team that fields Thorne, Turner and the Newsons. They had no Callender in midfield (a pity he has gone back to the Hawthorns), but they have new boy Lee Norfolk who looked a decent player. Their fans seem to think they have lost Harrop and Emmerson. The latter is on army duty at present, but of course he did turn out for us in pre-season. Harrop is a class act at this level and he will be a big miss. I should think that Colin must be sniffing if he is available. Without Emmerson they have no-one on this showing who can bring the ball out of defence. So their midfield were struggling to get the ball down and play. All in all they are probably two good players from being a very strong side and of course Harrop and Emmerson are very good players, but will they keep them?
I like the Rovers they are friendly and welcoming, the stands give a good unobstructed view (but nobody sits in them) and the pitch is big and good players should thrive on a big pitch, but I was surprised that at this stage of the season that the playing surface was so patchy.

Following their 1 - 3 away victory at Haringay Borough today in the FA Cup,
Belfont will now host our visit in the next round of the Cup on Saturday 30th August.
Belfont play in the Combined Counties Football League (the same as North Greenford) and infact drew 2 - 2 with North Greenford last Tuesday evening.

Hopefully Cloin and the lads can gain you a bit of pay-back on the day

I presume that our Vase match is Saturday 23rd August not 20th as posted ?
The Essex Senior Cup draw is of great personal interest to me as Maurituis Sports & Pennant were formed from the wreckage of Walthamstow Avenue & Pennant, the club that I was Chairman of. The withdrawel of Pennant from the Avenue merger and the then merger with cash rich Maurituis Sports was done without my knowledge. After seven years of trying to get the Avenue back to senior football I then saw this new club make an instant jump from Step 7 to Step 5. This club then went on to push Ryman League Waltham Forest out of their Walthamstow home at Wadham Lodge.
I might ask Colin if I can play in this one!

Phew, after a few weeks work the website's in a decent enough state to be released.

I've still got quite a bit left to do to the site to finish it off, and no doubt there are some areas that need a bit of tidying up, but if anyone notices any GAPING holes or bugs then please let me know.

For those who haven't been out and about today on the roads (Friday) there is hovoc on the A12 - M25 and most roads between Tiptree and London due mainly to the 'V'Festival at Chelmsford.
Those of you travelling to tomorrows FA Cup game at North Greenford are strongly advised to find alternatives routes.
See what your Sat Navs say but those without I'd suggest going out to Stansted on the A120 and the down the M11 to the M25/North Circular.
Alternatively, for those going to Greenford over the QE2 Bridge and round the M25, I'd suggest drop down towards Southend and taking the A13 to the Dartford crossing.

Kenbee - I agree with all you have said. Still don't think we are playing in top gear, which is good as we are going to need to up it when we play the top teams. Johnny Watson looked sharp up top and i feel gives us something we don't normally have, give him a few games up there and I'm sure lots of goals will come. Could shape up to be a really good season!!!

A brilliant game last night, worth twice the admission price. Harwich are a decent team, honest and very quick up front without being a route one team, but I doubt that they will be pushing for the title so it looks like no easy games this season.
Johhny W was my MOM, what an engine !the positions he took up constantly worried the Harwich defenders. Tommy E looked much sharper than he had in pre-season, but I was concerned at how easily our midfield were by-passed. We looked good in midfield when we had the ball, but struggled without it. However Harwich have to thank their very good young keeper Bedingfield for keeping them in the game.

Kenbee (and everyone else),

One or two weird and not so wonderful things might happen with the site at the moment, as I am currently finishing off giving it a bit of a new look.

I'm afraid that faffing around with a live site and its database sometimes causes these things to happen - this will also be why your message did not appear here for a while.

Please bear with me and I hope all will be revealed by the end of this week.

A good result from the lads. I know that Liam scored the goal, but there is no report, although the website says there is. Some interesting results with all the local teams doing well.

Is there any news regarding the injury to the Hullbridge player last Tuesday?

Rich, Ive put the article put up to the top in the main page. I did speak to Shadey about a pic with you, Shadey & Judd (I think its you 3!), but no photo call has taken place at mo. I could bring a camera to the Harwich game and get pic of you 3 before the game and add it the story.

Charitable people of Tiptree!

Hopefully you will recognise my sign in name. As a current player of the mighty Tiptree United; my job, and I quote the words of Mr Wallington himself, is to, "head the ball, kick, spit and punch people into submission on the football field" (I leave all the pretty stuff to everyone else)!

On the 6th September 2008 however, I will be leaving the boots at home and gearing up as I take part in the Race the Sun charity event in aid of Action medical research!

Please may I give you some info about the charity before I ask for you to navigate yourself to my online sponsorship page.

Action Medical Research is a charity that funds pioneering medical research and boasts a valued contribution in the breakthroughs of ultrasound in pregnancy, the polio vaccine and the hip replacement operation. The charity are currently funding research into premature birth, which to this day remains the biggest killer of under 1's.

The event entails a gruelling 25 mile bike race to the base of mount Helvellyn, a climb to the summit (3,117 ft), the decent of the mountain and arrival at Lake Thirlmere for a 5k canoe race, and then, just to make sure we can't walk again for the rest of 2008, a final 30 mile dash on the bikes to the finish…….where an ambulance will hopefully be waiting to drive me to the nearest hospital and where I expect I'll be spending the next few months recovering!

People, jokes aside this is a great charity who do a lot of great work. Please take a couple of minutes to visit my page at http://www.action.org.uk/~portamento and make a contribution if at all possible.

Thank you for your time

Rich :)

Yes Gary.
I went to Chapel Road thinking it was a home game only to find that it was at Hullbridge so made a quick dash across the Dengie. It was well worth it; a credible 2-2 draw by what was virtually a reserve team (only 4 first team squad players). Tom English scoring our first and our very impressive young number 4 getting a superb second. It was an entertaining game marred by a serious injury to a Hullbridge play which meant that the game was abandoned with four minutes to go. Both teams looked sharp up front, but negated this with very defending.
We should have been out of sight by half time and Gary Hill who was impressive in everything but his finishing should have had a hatful.
If Tom had been on top of his game we would have had six. An Aveley scout was watching the game and was very impressed by our number 4 playing right midfield and Ben Cross at left back.
It was good to see our reserve players emulating the first team and playing a passing game. They have some impressive young players and did well against a Step 5 outfit.
What a terrible ground for a Step 5 club (from a spectator facilities view). It made Whitton's look like Wembley

Thought the match report was spot on in every aspect. The last time we played that badly (Tilbury) we came back with a stonking performance (Canvey) so more of the same please boys for Saturday.

I agree Kenbee I think on the day Concord were too good for us – very hard to find anyone that came out of that game with a great deal of credit – the whole team looked out of sorts for some reason. If it’s any consolation I was speaking to a couple of Lowestoft fans later in the day who said that Concord played them off the park in the Vase but couldn’t score which follows that if they could put the ball away the defeat yesterday would have been by a far greater margin.
Let’s hope it was just a bad day at the office and I’m sure Colin will put it right for Saturday.

I'm not too sure if Concord were too good for us, or we just put up a very disjointed performance on Saturday. Perhaps a bit of both.
It's certainly hard to get into a game if the opposition do not let you have the ball, but when we did get it we promptly gave it back to them. It's all very well playing four five passes in your own half, but there seemed nobody in mid-field who could play a telling ball in the half where it counts. Tommy E, Gary and Jamie (once he had been released from his starting left back position) were living on scraps.
We defended well against constant pressure and looked even better when we had two conventional full-backs in the shape of Ben Cross and Seb.
A few players missing of course and I am sure that we will be there or thereabouts when the season starts. I doubt that we will come across too many teams in the Ridgeons League of Concord's quality.

Just to let all supporters know that went to see Lee Owen at Colchester General on Wednesday night. He had immediate operation Tuesday night to rectify dislocation and had further operation on Thursday for fracture. He's surprisingly cheerful under the circumstances and is already planning return date! He's unlikely to be fit for the match at Wisbech on Sat week but should be back around next March/April for the Easter matches and the important run-in to the Premier League title.

Absolutely gutted for Lee - not known him long but obviously a quality player and an integral part of Colin's plans.
I thought both sets of players did very well to carry on in a genuine competitive spirit following the injury as so often that type of incident can knock the stuffing out of the most experienced players.
Kevin Inglis needed to step up and I think he did exactly that at times completely bossing the midfield.
I'm sure Johnny Watson could earn a living advertising Duracel batteries - what an assett to any club.
I thought we matched and sometimes outplayed them in all ares of the park with the exception maybe of the final 15 minutes when they had us on the back foot - but even then we still played it out of trouble.

If you read this Lee we all wish you a speedy recovery.
